Graniteville Poster

We were fortunate enough to team with the GVW Community Investment Corporation to produce a documentary that tells the one-hundred-seventy-year history and gives an insightful view into the future of the little mill town of Graniteville, South Carolina.

The past begins with the founding of the town by industrialist William Gregg, who not only founded the Graniteville Manufacturing Company, but he instilled in the people a strong work ethic and the figurative foundation of Granite that has kept the town thriving.

The present begins in the early morning hours of January 6, 2005,when Norfolk Southern Train 192 diverted from the main line and struck a standing local train causing a massive derailment, and the breach of a chlorine tanker car that spilled approximately 60 tons of the poisonous gas onto the sleeping town. Emotional interviews from rescue workers, officials, mill workers, and survivors tell of the chaos, and the will to overcome what became that fateful night.

The future begins after the closing of Avondale Mills, an event many thought would be the end of the town. The story allows visionaries and entrepreneurs to share their vision of what can be accomplished with the vast resources in its people, infrastructure and the surrounding natural elements.

Graniteville: Past, Present, Future whisks the viewer into an emotional, uplifting ride that will leave audience members with a renewed sense of hope and purpose. Over 40 interviews, numerous recreations and animations aid in telling the story of the historical little town. The documentary comes complete with narration by the legendary Okefenokee Joe, and a musical score written by multi-platinum recording artist Archie Jordan.
